Just got a confirmation from the man himself - Suraj Mani, that his new album is ready. Suraj for the uninitiated, was at the forefront of the Indian rock scene till last year, handling the vocal duties for the famous rock act, Motherjane. A sudden back injury in November last year led to him vanquishing his duties with Motherjane and going into a 3 month long hiatus for an extensive treatment.
Suraj was the front-man of Motherjane from 2000 to 2011 and oversaw the band's numerous successes including the awards of Best Indian Rock Album bestowed on the two studio album releases from the band, Insane Biography (2003) and Maktub (2008). Since Suraj's departure from Motherjane, the vox duties are being handled by the young and talented Vivek Thomas, who along with the band recently concluded an international tour with Motherjane's 5 city sojourn to Ukraine in September this year.
Suraj's new album has been recorded in his own studio in Kerala and should in all likelihood comprise of deep insightful lyrics which became synonymous with Motherjane's songs over the last decade, with one song - Maya, from the band's debut album making it to the Indian Book of Chronicles.
Though Suraj's new album's release dates are not out yet and thus it can be assumed that there's still time, there is enough in the Indian rock scene to look forward too this month. Megadeth, a band with whom Suraj's (then with Motherjane) had the fortune of sharing stage during their first tour India couple of years back, plays at NH7 Weekender in Delhi on 14th October and Slayer plays at Rock in India on October 20th.
Health Warning: Megadeth and Slayer concerts on successive weekends can cause cervical injuries.
